Second attempt

Mommy W - Today we had a change in menu for our little guy. So far I've been following the menu plan in our Annabel Karmel book on infant and toddler feeding. Which brings us to Sweet Potato with some breast milk mixed in. I have to make sure that well-meaning people don't try to taste his food, otherwise little Aydin's gonna have more siblings than we bargained for. Yikes.

We bring in foods every 2 days, the book says, to keep track of what agrees with him and what he's allergic to. Very important since he's been covered in eczema, sian. Wednesday we might do carrot or regular potato, haven't decided yet. The books been a blessing, I'd have never thought of so many recipes on my own. A lot of them sound pretty good actually and can be adapted for family meals. I'll share them as we go along and try them out.

So sweet potato was a better hit than the Nestle's baby rice. Inda nyaman kali the Nestle, I'll look in Supersave for a better brand. Little Aydin was incredibly suspicious of the orange stuff on the spoon, the look he gave me saying, 'that better not be the stuff from yesterday, mommy...'

Anyways, he got more down than in the past two days. Which makes me a happy mommy :)

Aydin first solids

Your pediatrician looks for certain signs of readiness in your baby before advising you to begin solid foods. Some of these signs are:

• She is at least 4 months old.
• She weighs twice as much as her birth weight.
• She weighs at least 13-15 pounds.
• She can sit with support, allowing her to lean forward when she wants another spoonful and backward to refuse.
• She has control over her head and neck muscles and can turn her head to refuse food.
• She has stopped exhibiting the extrusion reflex when you put a spoon in her mouth.
• She is drinking at least 32-40 ounces of formula per 24-hours and still wants more.
• She is breast feeding at least 8-10 times per 24-hours (after the first few weeks), empties both breasts at each feeding, and still wants more.
• The time between feedings becomes shorter and shorter over a period of several days.
• She can bring an object in her hand directly to her mouth.
• She shows interest in others eating around her.
• She becomes fussy in the middle of the night, whereas before she slept through with no problem. Or her sleep periods are becoming shorter instead of longer.

The only thing above not applicable to Aydin is "He" rather than "She". He has been showing this symptoms for months and we finally decided to feed him with solids. We are actually feeding him a week early than the recommended age of 6 months..but hey.. one week wont make so much of a difference. He took it suspiciously in the beginning but began to spat it out and let out a tantrum after the 3rd or 4th feed. Ah well...thats a good start..tomorrow more rice and monday mommy is thinking to add some flavour to it..maybe Papaya or sweet potato...fun fun.

Rashes and rashes

Yeap..as predicted Aydin inherited both Mommy and Daddy Eczema problem. He got rashes mainly at his joint areas and he will scratch em` especially if we let him out in the heat for too long. Just this afternoon we took him to Soon-Lee to buy DVD and he made this waving action only knowing that he was actually innocently trying to scratch his hands with my watch. Last time he did the same but with his shoes scratching his ankle.

The frustrating bit is we can`t do anything about it other than keep it moisturize all the time using the known baby friendly product such as QV, Dermaveen and Seba-med. We are hoping on that fact that he got it early that it will be gone earlier rather than later. Both Mommy and Daddy caught it when we were in our teens and it was a mighty horrible experience.

Anyway..Aydin is now reaching a stage at which he will and only wanted to be held by people that he know. Both nenek from both sides need to do some warm ups before picking him up during the weekends. He is getting more and more picky and will have no problem in publicy displaying his affection by releasing a mighty tantrum whenever he feels insecure in the hands of a stranger. A tantrum loud enough for Mommy and Daddy to pack up our bags and excused ourselves from a family Ambuyat function last weekend. Our grumply little Aydin!

Solids

Its been quite a while since Daddy updated this blog. Feel so lazy to use my camera after the long marathon at Sultan B`day parade last weekend. Anyway our little He-Boy is now 7.5 kg, a bit on the high side compared to average babies his age. We are not surprise though as his milk in-take can go as high as 210z during working hours. Mommy is a bit stressed as she cant cope with Aydin increasing apettite and hence resorting to the last resort...Malta..a foul tasting drink which supposedly can help increase milk production. Well..well..the thing mommy did for u baby.

Next two weeks, Aydin will reached a key milestone in his life i.e. eating solids. Mommy already had a recipe book ready and by purchasing his feeding chair next we are all ready to go. We are quite excited to see how will he react to his first mum mum. I flipped through the recipe book last time and some of them look quite yummy...i guess from now on we will be sharing dishes with Aydin during dinner! Fun Fun

The shipment arrived today and to my surprise ( a box of stuff) was delivered to our car this afternoon. Mommy has been shopping again and this time its full of Aydin`s T-shirt and educational Dvd`s. The T-shirts were pretty cool as it says stuff like no cheek pinching, i drink till i passed out and i am too sexy for my diaper. Will definitely take a snap of them once its out of the laundry.
