Aydincapades

Its been a while since I have posted myself on this blog. So here goes.

Aydin has pretty much fully recovered from his bout of HFMD. It was a bit of a nightmare when he woke me up at 5 am on Thursday last week with ulcers on his lower lip. With a flight to KL that night, we took him to a doctor post haste and came away with oral gels for the mouth ulcers and calamine lotion for his hands and feet.

And even though he was really hungry, he couldn’t bring himself to eat. But then he also couldn’t resist his favourite foods. He held a chocolate bar in his hand and cried. He wouldn’t let go because he wanted to eat it but at the same time he would cry if he tried to put it in his mouth. We had to bathe him with the chocolate still in his grip. And he fell asleep with it in his hands. That’s when I pried it loose and cleaned him up. Poor darling.

Once he figured out that the Orrepaste numbed his ulcers he would take my finger and put it to his mouth. ‘Take the pain away, Mommy’.

By Saturday things were on the up. He’d figured out how to eat without the food making contact with his ulcers and he was playing happily. We got him his favourite grapes, apples and chicken soup. It made us so happy to see him get back to his regular self.

His appetite for spicy food is back. Last night he joined us at the dinner table and wolfed down long beans with sambal belacan (not too hot) and chicken marinated in Nando’s Hot sauce. Later he chased his Dad around the living room asking for his share of the some ‘Gila Pedas’ keropok (I think it was more sweet chilli flavour really). But yes, he definitely loves Daddy’s snacks.

Today is the first day I have not pumped at all in the office. *trumpet fanfare * It was very hard to slow it down over the past month. You can’t help but feel emotional and even guilty knowing that the supply will drop. When Aydin was suffering last weekend, I was relieved that I was still breastfeeding as it was the only thing he would want to eat. And I like to believe that it also contributed to him recovering so quickly.

But he is 22 months old already and taking plenty of regular food and drinks. He’s on fresh milk when I am at the office (he prefers Paul’s hehe).

I have to admit that I don’t really know how to deal with stopping completely. I love the bonding and cuddling that comes with breastfeeding. Its so convenient for soothing him and putting him to sleep. And a blessing when he is ill.
So I’ll just take it slow, let it wind down naturally with no pumping…

At lunch tadi, Aydin was watching Animal Mechanicals on Playhouse Disney and got overexcited. He did a run on the sofa, crashed into the armrest and went flying somersault-fashion over the side onto the floor landing on his back. He went so quiet after that, Daddy and I freaked out sikit.

He seems ok now though. Wednesday is Dalila Playdate Day so hopefully he’ll be over it by now.
